So you finally decided to take that vacation. Congrats! Now what? Now comes the odyssey of trying to find the cheapest deals on flights and accommodations so you have more money to spend while you’re there (or to buy a really cute outfit for your trip because… obviously).
Rather than spending hours on your computer sifting through the many (many) sites out there, I’ve taken the guesswork out and compiled a list of the top ten essential sites for travel deals I use on my own adventures. You’ll want to save these to your favorites. Immediately.
Sites for Travel Deals: FLIGHTS
WEGO – This site is a great resource for amazing deals on flights throughout the world. It searches over 700 booking sites to find the absolute lowest prices out there (I recently used it for my flights to Australia and Bali and it saved me an extra $180 over other travel sites!) So many places to go, so little time… Check it out here.
NEXT VACAY – This service helps those who love to travel, but don’t have time to find great deals. The founders developed a software that searches hundreds of sites to find ridiculously cheap airfare from your home airport. When a particularly fantastic deal is detected, it will send you an email notification with a link to purchase a ticket. It’s that easy! For only $25 a year you can sit back and have someone else do the legwork for you. $25 a year to save hundreds on airfare?!? It’s a no brainer. Check it out here.
ROME2RIO – To easily to find your way from point A to point B, try Rome2rio. It will not only find you cheap airfare, but you can also search for other ways to get where you need to go (including trains, buses, and car services). It’s an incredibly valuable resource! Check it out here.
FARENESS – Looking to be a little more spontaneous? I’m not talking throw caution to the wind and get married in Vegas “spontaneous”, but being open to a new (possibly unknown) location “spontaneous.” Well then, Fareness is the site for you! While other sites search specific destinations, Fareness searches types of locations. You simply enter in your home airport and where you’re wanting to travel (the beach, Europe, etc) and it will find amazing deals in that genre of travel. It’s a perfect way to not only find cheap tickets, but also a wonderful way to uncover destinations that may not have been on your radar yet. Roundtrip to NYC for $169? Done. A few days at the beach in Providenciales for $398? I’m not familiar with that area, but why not?!? Check it out here.
Sites for Travel Deals: ACCOMMODATIONS
BOOKING.COM – I’ve used this site for years and love how organized and user friendly it is! Not only will you find amazing deals on hotels around the world, but you can also save favorites by trip or location, and easily access properties you’ve booked. In addition to their website, they also have an intuitive app that makes booking your next hotel a breeze. At a glance you can see amenities, nearby attractions, hotel policies, and more! I used it on my latest trip and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the hotels it suggested. They certainly get an A+ for user experience. Check it out here.
SNAP TRAVEL – Looking for a great deal? Well, get ready to have your socks blown off. In fact, you might as well just take them off right now. Snap Travel has unbelievable deals on hotels! I used it for a few hotels on my most recent trip to Europe and saved an average of $15-30/night. You can search by a specific hotel, or with a map view (which is my favorite, because it uses a heat map to show you how close the hotels are to major tourist attractions – it’s an OCD planning dream come true!) Check it out here.
AIRBNB – Want to live like a local while on your next vacation? Then Airbnb is the place to go! With listings in over 190 countries, you can choose a property that meets your needs. This includes homes all to yourself, or simply a private room. I used this site for my stay in Amsterdam (a lovely apartment called Sunny Side Up) and couldn’t have been more pleased. It’s a wonderful alternative to hotels if you want a more authentic experience. Check it out here.
HOSTELWORLD – Hostels are a great way to not only find economical accommodations, but also to meet new friends. This site makes finding a property simple, and learning more about each hostel easy. Check it out here.
Sites for Travel Deals: GENERAL SAVINGS
VIATOR – I use Viator every time I travel for great deals on sights and entertainment. Their website and app are extremely user friendly! They even offer customer reviews and photos (so you can decide what’s worth seeing and what isn’t). It’s also a fantastic way to discover activities you may not have been aware of. For instance, when I booked my Auschwitz tour, I found a great deal to a nearby Salt Mine! Such an awesome experience and I had no idea it was even there! Check it out here.
TRAVEL ZOO – Finally, a site that does it all! In addition to awesome deals on airfare, you can also find great prices on hotels, rental cars, cruises, vacation packages… you name it! I’ve used Travel Zoo on several occasions when my soul gets restless. $779 for 6 nights with air to Paris and Prague? Absolutely! $549 to Ireland roundtrip? Why not! This site is an endless resource for discounts and destination ideas. Check it out here.
And there you have it – the top ten essential sites for travel deals. Now that you have a roadmap for how to find the best deals on airfare, accommodations, and much more, you’re ready to explore the world! The only difficult decision will be deciding what to check off your bucket list first!
