Is it just me, or do you instantly miss far off places the second you return home? Sure it’s nice to do a load of laundry and sleep in your own bed. But the allure of faraway destinations makes you wish your vacation was just a little bit longer. (Not surprisingly, this is made all the more real when you return to work the next day).
So why not bring your adventures back with you?
There are countless ways to incorporate travel inspired home decor in your interior decorating! And doing so will whisk you away, even when you’re sitting on your couch in sweatpants. Here are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
Maps
Maps are a great way to showcase your love for travel in a unique and stylish way. And with so many to choose from, they’re a versatile option for decorating any room in your home.
Pinnable/Scratchable Maps
Push pin maps are fantastic for highlighting places you’ve been. And you can choose from a variety of different styles and frame options to compliment your existing decor. I personally have the National Geographic push pin map with a barn gray frame and love it!
Another way to highlight places you’ve been is with scratch-off maps. With several different layouts and styles, they’re a fun way to showcase your adventures.

Wall Art Maps
Another way to accent your home with maps is by using decorative wall art. There’s no shortage of possibilities from a canvas print to framed to decals and more!
One of the most common is canvas map wall art. You can choose from a single panel or multiple panels in different sizes to fit any room in your house.
One type of map that’s truly unique is metallic foil city maps. They come in multiple destinations from all over the world and detail rivers, streets, bridges, and more! They’re absolutely stunning (and make memorable gifts or special mementos).
Metal Maps
Another option is a metal world map to adorn your wall. Not only are they eye-catching, but you can make it more personal by surrounding it with photos you’ve taken in various destinations!
Globes
Like maps, globes are a wonderful way to showcase the world. And I’m not talking about the brightly-colored cardboard ones you remember from elementary school (although you could certainly go that way if you wanted). No, I’m talking about the super classy ones that make you feel like you’ve just walked into the study of a very prominent, wealthy businessman (who may or may not have a secret bat cave).
For a mixture of science and wanderlust, get a Mova globe! These interesting gadgets use a combination of magnets and light to perpetually spin. They come in a plethora of different styles and sizes, so you’re sure to find one you love! (I received the Antique Beige for my birthday a few years back and it’s quickly become one of my favorite decorations!)
Artwork & Prints
One thing I love to do when I travel is pick up a piece of art. Whether it’s a painting, small sculpture, or print, if it fits in my carry-on it’s coming with me! Then when I return home, I surround it with souvenirs or photos I’ve taken from that destination. That way I have little pockets of the world in every room.
If bringing home artwork is too much of a hassle, then another option is to display wanderlust art. Get creative and use it to accent an office, living room, or entryway!

If you want to display photos but don’t have any of your own, you can order prints from someone who does! They can be found on stock photography sites like iStock and Shutterstock, or from Etsy shops like mine. Use them to highlight bucket list goals or fond memories of places that are near and dear to your heart.
Clocks
Clocks can be an intriguing way to acknowledge your love for the world. With their relationship to space and time, they make a perfect accent!
One I really love is the world map with clocks. It comes in multiple colors to bring the map and clock concept together in a visually pleasing format.
Another creative way to decorate using timepieces is with newsroom clocks. Choosing from a variety of locales, you can line clocks up to see multiple time zones at once. It’s a fun nod to days in other destinations.
Home Accents
The special touches throughout your home are what make a room beautiful instead of boring (and one of the best ways to work in some travel-inspired home decor in your own house). There’s no shortage of ways you can use home accents in celebration of your love for travel!
Pillows
If you have a couch, you must have accent pillows. Pretty sure that’s a rule somewhere (unless you’re living in a college frat house and your couch is on the front porch, but even then…) So if you have a serious case of wanderlust, decorative travel pillows are a great way to go!
Shower Curtains
Your shower curtain is arguably the largest focal point in your bathroom. So why not get one that’s a little more interesting than your run-of-the-mill selection from Target? Instead, hang a wanderlust inspiring shower curtain to make your bathroom really pop!
Decorative Statues
Small touches like decorative statues are another way to make a room stand out. I personally love airplane statues for their simplicity and vintage feel.
These are just a few things you can do to make your home a wanderlust-worthy oasis. But there are so many other ways to incorporate travel inspired home decor, I’d love to hear your ideas!
