Famed for stunning vistas, soaring temperatures, and perfect beaches, the Greek Islands offer a seemingly endless supply of magnificent scenery.
If you’ve found yourself on almost any social media page dedicated to travel, you will likely have already become well acquainted with the stunning views littered across the islands. Fortunately, the awe-inspiring landscapes in this part of the world sit bathed in sunshine for 250 days of the year. So, that means you can enjoy them beyond the peak summer season (perfect!)
I’ve compiled a list of three must-see sights across the islands, but anywhere in Greece is sure to steal your heart. I have no doubt these alluring vistas will inspire your next trip?
Oia Town, Santorini
Many would consider Santorini the ‘poster boy’ of the Greek Islands, and for good reason. It boasts some of the most well-known scenery in this enchanting corner of the world. And, the Aegean Sea provides the perfect backdrop to the famous blue-domed churches and pristine whitewashed terraces.
These churches are located in the town of Oia, which is on many visitors’ itineraries (particularly honeymooners looking to take the perfect just-married snapshot). With the ability to see them up close or from above, the town guarantees spellbinding photo opportunities and is a blast to explore!
If you also want to catch a glimpse of the most beautiful sunsets in Greece, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Oia. There’s captivating scenery all across the island, but the northern tip of Santorini offers the best views. Particularly from the hillside behind the main town.

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos
Arguably best known as a destination for party-chasing Brits, Zakynthos (Zante) actually offers some of the best vistas anywhere in the Greek Islands. The most famous is the postcard-worthy Navagio Beach, which sits on the western side of the island. There, it’s well away from the hubbub of Zante’s lively town center.
Crowned Metro’s best beach in 2018, Navagio’s glistening waters and perfect sandy shores can only be accessed by sea. That makes it one of the most tranquil and beautiful beaches on the island. Even more fascinating is the decaying shipwreck that sits on the shores at Navagio, which is a hot spot for many visitors.
Reports suggest that the ship landed on the beach in the early 1980s when authorities cornered the crew in the cove. The ship was supposedly smuggling cigarettes and alcohol. Hence the beach’s colloquial nickname – Smugglers Cove.

Samaria Gorge, Crete
As you tend to your sea legs from the previous two ventures, we’re heading inland on the island of Crete for the final stop on our scenic tour. Samaria Gorge dissects Crete’s White Mountains and is one of the island’s most popular tourist destinations. However, a trip to the gorge is no walk in the park.
It’s widely considered one of Europe’s greatest hiking trails, posing a challenging trek of approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers). But, for all of your exertions across the rugged terrain, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views around every corner. Particularly, at the very start from the viewing platform 4,100 feet (1,250 meters) above sea level. To see the gorge in all its splendor, I recommend an early morning trip to make sure you don’t miss the sun rising over the White Mountains.

And, there you have it! Some of the most scenic spots around the Greek islands. No matter where you choose to go on your next adventure there, you’re sure to be delighted!
