When you think of Americana images, I’m sure several things come to mind. Maybe it’s a classic drive-in movie theater filled with vintage cars and popcorn. Maybe it’s a soda shop with smiling waiters serving up milkshakes. Or maybe it’s kids running down main street with pinwheels in hand.
Often, these pictures conjour memories of a time when life was simple and things like cell phones and “like” buttons didn’t exist. When patriotism was more than a bumper sticker, family dinners were around a table and not a TV, and neighbors still brought each other sugar.
Ok, maybe that was just an episode of Leave It To Beaver.
At any rate, here are just a few photos that capture Americana at its finest.
A street performer in New York City dressed as The Statue of Liberty.
It doesn’t get more quaint than small town Main Streets, like this one in Bozeman, Montana. The vintage signs and flower-adorned lamp posts instantly transport you back in time.
Martha’s Vineyard is a nautical patriot’s dream with sailboats and American flags as far as the eye can see! It also boasts some of the best chowder in New England. One more reason to visit!
Hometown festivals and parades are a mainstay in small town America. Giving locals the opportunity to showcase their businesses and interests strengthens a sense of community (and usually includes funnel cake… bonus!)
One of the best things about America? In-N-Out! Their menu is the stuff of dreams.
Take a step back to the birth of a nation with a visit to Boston, Massachusetts. The city’s deep history and classic colonial architecture are straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
Nothing is more American than a classic truck on a ranch. This one, owned by a family friend, has been around my entire life. Its ever-growing rust spots mirror my increasing wrinkles and gray hair.
Uncle Sam floating through the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The spectacle draws 3.5 million onlookers in New York City each year, while another 50 million watch from home!
Forget the soda shop, I’ll take a cone with rainbow sprinkes, please!
The best way to see America? By channeling that Route 66 spirit on the wide open road!
Farming is the backbone of America. In fact, 2.1 million farms are scattered throughout the countryside and most are still family-owned (99%, to be exact!)
A symbol of America’s west coast, the Golden Gate Bridge is quintessential California. Even more impressive in person, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964 (but still remains one of the most photographed!)
Baseball – the great American pastime. Head down to Florida or Arizona for spring training and the chance to see major league teams compete on smaller, more intimate fields.
Of course, we must include Washington DC when talking about Americana images. Over decades, the nation’s capital has seen marches, inaugurations, demonstrations, and staggering change.
