Sunrise on the Nyhavn canal. The quiet streets and brightening horizon were well worth only getting an hour of sleep.

Tough to get out of bed when this is your room!  The 71 Nyhavn Hotel is a renovated spice factory on the Nyhavn canal. It even has its original timber beams throughout the inside!  Because of its central location, it’s within walking distance of several sites, restaurants, and bars in Copenhagen.

Boats, boats, and more boats! Copenhagen harbors many historical ships along its waterfronts. While you’re there, don’t miss the memorial anchor at the end of Nyhavn canal!  The anchor commemorates the 1,700 Danish sailors, officers, and allied forces who lost their lives in WWII.

Like many cities around the world, Copenhagen has love locks on several of its bridges.  Seems like a great reason to bring a padlock on your visit!

The architecture around Copenhagen is absolutely fantastic!  In addition to buildings dating back to 1681, it also has many 21st century facades.  Between the two, the contrast is stunning!

The cherry blossoms and fountains outside the Amalienborg, where the Danish royal family lives.  Another reason to love the city?  Its many flowers!

The Little Mermaid statue along Copenhagen’s waterfront. The Danish author Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale character was unveiled in 1913.  It quickly rose to fame, and is now an icon of the city (and huge tourist attraction!)  Consequently, you can expect some heavy crowds around the small statue.

The church and mote outside Kastellet, one of the best preserved star fortresses in Northern Europe.  Despite being built in 1664, the fort is still in use today.

A replica of Michelangelo’s “David” along the waterfront.  Because Copenhagen has so many works of art, strolling along the waterfronts is even more enjoyable.
