Flight Attendant Confessions – Volume 2.
As you can imagine, flight attendants see some bizarre behavior in their line of work. What people think is acceptable on a plane versus everywhere else in life can be complete polar opposites.
Interested to know what really drives flight attendants crazy, I surveyed some on my flight from San Francisco to Sydney to uncover the biggest flight attendant pet peeves.
In this volume of Flight Attendant Confessions, we’ll explore some truly shocking passenger behavior, as well as what you can do to become their new favorite traveler.
What is your #1 flight attendant pet peeve, and why?
“When passengers stand or move about the cabin when the seatbelt sign is on or when we have a cart in the aisle. It’s not safe or efficient for anyone! Also, asking for five drinks.”
“When people walk around in bare feet. Especially in the lavatory!”
“Passengers who don’t understand the FAA alcohol consumption restrictions. Similarly, alcohol-related bad behavior.”
“Emotional support animals that really aren’t. Passengers think the aisles are doggy walkways. There’s no consideration for other passengers or who will sit in that seat next.”
“When I’m serving food or drinks and people ask me to take their trash. It’s not sanitary!”
“Passengers who constantly ring their call buttons for you to pick up their garbage. Call buttons are primarily used for emergencies, not trash!”
“When passengers don’t take their headphones off when looking at you, and you have to repeat yourself five times to ask what they’d like to eat or drink.”
“Not listening to crew members’ instructions during severe turbulence.”
“A lot of times when the seatbelt sign is on it’s for everyone’s safety. When the captain tells us to sit, it could be bad and people will just be standing in the aisle when it’s not safe.”
What’s an easy way to get on a flight attendant’s good side?
“It’s one of those things that happens occasionally. If you bring snacks (candy and whatnot) to the crew, it’s the holy grail and flight attendants will treat you like gold.”
Moral of these flight attendant confessions?
Flight attendants have enough to do without having to babysit bad behavior. Always adhere to their instructions (which are given for good reason), to avoid one of the many flight attendant pet peeves.
And, for god’s sake, put on your shoes when walking around! Seriously. You nasty.
