Colorado is arguably one of the most scenic states in America. It’s home to diverse sights and activities and, as a result, popular among domestic and international tourists alike. It’s perhaps best known, however, as a bit of a winter wonderland once the colder months settle in.
To help you enjoy the snowy season to its fullest, here are five of the best things to do in Colorado during winter.
1. Ski The Famous Peaks
It’s really the skiing that stands out most when you think of Colorado’s reputation as a winter destination. While there are other parts of the U.S. with great skiing, Colorado is home to a number of the most famous resorts and best peaks. The only issue is choosing the resort that’s right for you. To help, do a little research ahead of time to see how they’re ranked in different categories (as in overall rating, mountain terrain, resort nightlife, etc.)
And you should definitely prioritize skiing one or two of the famous areas like Snowmass, Telluride, Vail, Steamboat, or Beaver Creek.

2. Soak In The Steamboat Springs
The name “Steamboat Springs” is synonymous with the ski resort, and many would argue is home to some of the best skiing in the state. With peaks that rival those of Vail and Beaver Creek, it also has a quaint town that tends to be less crowded.
However, the name “Steamboat Springs” actually comes from the natural hot springs that are found throughout the area. And a soak in the Strawberry Park Springs near town can be the perfect way to unwind after a day on the slopes.

3. Take A Snowmobile Tour
If you’d like to get out in the snow while in Colorado but skiing and snowboarding aren’t for you, a snowmobile tour is a great alternative! There are multiple opportunities to try this thrilling sport in wide-open wintery landscape. And snowmobile tours offer a fantastic opportunity to experience the back woods and hidden gems of the Rocky Mountains.

4. See Hockey In Denver
Nothing beats seeing a quality professional hockey game. Not surprisingly, the Colorado Avalanche at Denver’s Pepsi Center are a major draw for entertainment during the winter season. Tabbed as one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference with a look at the coming NHL season for 2018-19, the games promise to be exciting. And that translates to an active crowd and an electric stadium, making the games a fun activity for the whole family!

5. Hang Out In Aspen
Aspen has a reputation for being somewhat exclusive, with renowned skiing at the Aspen/Snowmass resort. But despite its ritzy reputation, Aspen is a lovely place to spend time in the winter. The town, lit up with snowy surroundings, is as stunning as a fairytale landscape. And there are plenty of excellent restaurants, high-class hotels, and various nightlife and shopping options to keep you busy on your winter holiday.
While there are many other Colorado resort towns with similar charm, there’s just something about Aspen…

Colorado’s wintery landscape offers jaw-dropping vistas and endless opportunities for fun and adventure. And these five things to do in Colorado during winter are sure to enhance your Rocky Mountain experience!
